Doesn't have to be long to tell you what you need to know, folks.
I bought this as a supplement to this video:

Dr. Westman teaches this diet to a class at Duke University and the video linked above is of an introductory class where he explains the diet. I guess so many people asked for the info in the class handouts that Dr Westman put this document on Amazon.

After successfully losing weight a few years ago on the Dukan diet (high protein, low fat, low carb), I found that as I got older, it didn't work for me and wasn't sustainable. I still eventually had cravings and got tired of eating so much protein.
I researched this Low Carb - High Fat - Moderate Protein (Keto) diet and now my husband and I have lost weight (so far -me 10lbs, him 14lbs) - however, the weight loss has really become just a wonderful side effect of this "lifestyle".
We are only in week 5, but we are experiencing reduced hunger, quicker satiety, better focus, concentration and attention span, increased energy level all day (evenly), better memory, restful sleep, less skin problems for me, more overall strength/endurance and a feeling of overall increased sense of well-being. We are in our 50's, and both work full time. This has honestly felt like a fog has been lifted.

Here's how it works: When you eat carbs (sugar/starches) it raises the glucose (sugar) levels in your blood. When that happens, your liver responds by making insulin. Insulin signals the brain, telling it to store all fat. The more carbs you eat for fuel, the more carbs you crave. (Think of it as burning newspaper (carbs) in a fireplace for heat vs. burning wood (fat) Fat burns evenly and burns longer, without having to constantly refuel). The more you eat carbs, the more you trigger insulin production - the enemy of weight loss.
BUT when you deprive your body of carbs (less than 20g/day) your body will choose to burn fat as fuel instead. This stage is called ketosis (because it triggers the liver to produce ketones) and happens in about 3 days time on average. Once you put your body into ketosis, when you eat fat, it sends a signal to the brain that you are full and satisfied. You will not be hungry all the time and you will know when you are full. Your body will tell you and it will not let you overeat. Now your body will BURN all the fat that you eat - and will not store it. And - BONUS - when you are not eating, your body will happily burn the fat you have stored on your body - like your belly, hips or butt.
IT IS NOT A FAD - It's science. This diet is over 20 years old, originally created to treat epilepsy, it is also used to treat/reverse some types of diabetes. This is the perfect diet for those who have had trouble losing weight due to insulin-resistance.

It's SO important to have an open mind about this diet because everything we were taught, is wrong. Fat is not the bad guy - sugar is. This diet can/will lower your cholesterol. Do some research on this before trying it and see all the info and data out there. More and more doctors are standing up, coming out and acknowledging that what they were taught was wrong. Low fat diets don't work for many people. If your doctor isn't on board, find a doctor who is.

From my experience, I say this: This diet feels right. It feels like we were meant to eat this way. I used to be always hungry, always thinking about my next meal. I overate, never really registering that I was full. I was often tired, sore and stiff. Couldn't stand for long periods without shifting my weight from one foot to the other or leaning on something. My posture was bad, my attention span was short, and woke in the morning feeling like I needed more sleep. Now I find myself really shocked at how many problems sugar can cause with your body and your health.

I suggest that you search the web and do research yourself. but don't discount this lifestyle until you do. It may be labeled a diet but this is a way to let your body self-regulate itself and heal itself by giving it the fuel to do so. And once it does - all you have to do is eat the high fat/low carb/moderate protein food that you love: bacon, eggs, sausage, ribeyes, caesar salad, ribs, buffalo wings with bleu cheese dressing... We no longer crave carbs!

Keytogenic Diet

Need to take time to read it. Very small book, arrived very quickly. Apparently this diet is taken from a dietary approach to dealing with seizures that predates much of modern medicine. Read about it in Wikipedia. Whatever; it is a low-everything diet that I intend to use along with a generally "South Beach Phase 3" approach to control and reduce my body weight gradually and permanently. Lifestyle modification needs all the valid information possible and some variety if that can be managed, IMHO.

This should have been advertised as a " brochure" pamphlet or handout, certainly not as a book. It was only a few pages in length and he price was excessive. I was so disappointed, that I just put it aside and maybe later I will read it. .

A Riveting Tale of Corporate Greed and Foul Play

Sergeant Joe Bartman works relentlessly to solve a series of unusual accidents surrounding a powerful electric company in California. This engrossing crime story has all the elements of a terrific read: corporate scandals; high-tech management and security; staged accidents; murder; blackmail; greed; lust; and treachery - all played by very believable and likeable characters.

Frank Manning succumbs to an unlikely death after scrutinizing the ethics of a company merger that will manipulate wholesale electricity prices. His sister, Patricia, becomes suspicious of Frank's employer when their attorneys offer her a quick and satisfying settlement. Frank's lover, Greta, is bothered by what she finds in Frank's personal notes. John, Frank's best friend, is a pawn in the game plan and overcome with guilt. Company employee, Morgan, is playing the game as hard as she can until the game plays out.

I rarely say this, but I could not put this book down! Robert Ryland has captivated me with a riveting tale of corporate greed and foul play that I find comparable to the work of the great John Grisham.

Electric Highway

The line "'But it didn't stop there,' she reminded unnecessarily," from "Electric Highway" summarizes the biggest problem I had with this book. In fact, with the exception of one minor plot discrepancy I spotted (saying only three people had some specific knowledge when it was four people by my count), it is the only issue I had. But it was a big one. I'll come back to this, but first I'll hit on the positives.

That nature of thrillers is such that the reader's ability to suspend disbelief should probably be stretched with most. The villains or situations are often well outside our experience or real world situations of which we're aware. While I hope nothing like this story has or will happen, the premise is largely built on the kind of situations that we know have occurred. In an author's note prior to the start of the book, Ryland lays out the portions of the book that are true. On top of the reality, Ryland layers a cast of characters and a story that, given the environment, maybe could have happened. Many of the characters, both those on the side of good and those not, were people with qualities we'll recognize as true to life and very common. Even those who stretch credibility, don't do so nearly as much as a typical thriller. Ryland's premise was a good starting point and I enjoyed the overall story.

However, there were two issues with the execution. The first was a tendency to describe much of what happened as a long narrative, possibly too much for some tastes. I'm not going to say he told when he should have showed, but sometimes it seemed to lean a little in that direction. This wasn't an issue for me, but the other problem, alluded to above, was. There were multiple instances of summarizing what happened earlier in the book. It was as though he didn't trust the reader to put the pieces together without reminders. One example was mid-book when a detective was reviewing in his head what he knew so far. This took five long paragraphs with five different critical facts reviewed in excruciating detail. Five sentences might have been okay, if done well. Even better would have been to cut this section out entirely. The detective's thoughts on what he thought the evidence thus far indicated were more than enough to remind the reader of the pertinent facts. If this kind of thing happened once, it would have been too much. But I saw it again and again. Although the detailed editing functions were handled well, this book could have stood a review by a good content editor to assist in tightening up and removing extraneous sections such as this.

The Shock of Murder

Wow! I was mesmerized by the corporate intrigue in this story. Who knew there was so much nastiness in the electric utility business? I know this is fiction, but it seems obvious that the author knows how this industry works. He also has a real flair for creating colorful characters. You want to keep reading and find out more about them, to see what they do, and what happens to them. A page-turner. This is the second book I've read by this author. I'm sure I'll be reading anything else he writes in the future.

Telling everyone I know how great this book is!!!

This is probably one of the best books I ever bought!!! To prepare for my colonoscopy I followed the 6 day diet recommendations to the letter. I was perfectly hydrated, well-fed, well-slept and comfortable the whole week before. I only had to drink 1/4 of the colon prep chemicals to be perfectly cleaned out.
Now I understand that doing it the old-fashioned way, without this 6 day diet, is like trying to take a sledge hammer to your colon the day before your procedure. This diet prepares your body for the chemicals, comfortably loosening everything up and getting everything gently moving. I still can't belive how easy everything was. I sailed right through, had great results, and my doctor was really impressed, and asked for info on this remarkable little book. What a God send!!!

I took this book to my physician's office, because I had been refusing to schedule a colonoscopy since the prep was so awful the first time. I am willing to try again if the specialist will okay my using this process. This new prep makes so much sense. Thank you Carla Greenspan for showing us the way!

The BEST prep!!!

I recently purchased this book written by Carla Greenspan Roter because I had an upcoming colonoscopy. I am very allergic to the traditional preps used for this important test, but unfortunately couldn't find a doctor that would help me find a prep that wouldn't almost kill me. I stumbled on this little gem of a book while researching untraditional preps and purchased it. I followed Carla's instructions and I am here to tell you that it is the best prep I have ever had, and I have been through five previous preps because of a colon cancer diagnosis. Carla is one of the most helpful, kind and encouraging people you will ever talk to. She encouraged me to call her and email her at any time, which I did. I used Carla's Gentle Prep throughout the six days and only used a fraction of the traditional prep to achieve an outstanding result.......my doctor told me what ever prep I used was really a good one......high praise from a US physician. I had a great outcome from my test.....I felt great afterwards. Totally unlike the other times I have gone through this, where I was drug out for two days after the colonoscopy, not to mention the day of the prep which were nightmares! I have told my children and everyone else who will listen about this. Help yourself people, because the doctors here unfortunately, will not.

Sales Prospecting for Beginners

Mixed in with many rather boring stories are little pearls of wisdom that all beginners in sales require. I have yet to hear any sales person or trainer NOT say "Learn about your client", "Listen closely to what your client says", etc. The basics are certainly there. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much more than that. Creating distinctive marketing segments, creative approaches to prospects, analysis of sales successes and failures, along with all of the techniques required to become a top salesperson - except in real estate I guess, are sadly lacking. I expected much more from this book.

This small book is very good for new people about to start

a career in SALES! Buy it, it really gives you good ideas

of where, what, when and whom to prospect for your business.

I always go back to this book when I need my basics tuned!

Not very informative

Most of the text is war stories meant to glorify the author. He has no experience at selling outside the field of real estate. Because of that this book has little of interest to those not in that field...and not that much for those in it. If you sell real estate there are far better books out there for you on how to build your business. If you sell something other than real estate this book is of very little use. Mr. Hopkins primary talent seems to be that of promoting...primarily himself. It may well be that his blend of self promotion played well in selling real estate years ago, but he is not a student of selling and is not in touch with the real world as it now exists. There are much better books out there on prospecting.
